Educational Consultation is a bridging service, designed to support caregivers navigate school programs, accommodations, IEP guidance, and assistive technology training. Educational Consultation is available to new and current clients, and can particularly helpful for children with identified psychological, behavioural, or learning challenges that are impacting their school functioning.

Cameron is a Ph.D. candidate in Clinical Psychology at Queen’s University, currently completing his clinical practicum at Child in Mind under the supervision of Dr. Adrienne Matheson. He primarily works with both adolescents and young adults, helping individuals navigate a range of psychological challenges. Cameron has a particular focus on supporting teenagers, including running a social skills group for those on the Autism spectrum.

In addition to his clinical work, Cameron’s research explores peer defense strategies against bullying, examining how students intervene on behalf of others and the contexts in which these actions occur. His work aims to contribute to understanding the social dynamics that can promote empathy and resilience in school environments.

Dr. Colleen Scott, Psy.D. graduated with a doctoral degree in clinical psychology from Pacific University in Oregon, USA , and has been a licensed psychologist for 15 years. Prior to Child in Mind, Dr. Scott worked at a community mental health agency for children and families as well as in private practice.

Dr. Scott has experience providing psychotherapy to children, families, and adults with a wide variety of presenting challenges. Her areas of focus include complex trauma, parent-child attachment, grief/loss, anxiety, depression, ADHD, and developmental concerns. Dr. Scott additionally has expertise in early childhood mental health (ages 0-5) and working with foster/adopted children.

Her research is on feminist approaches to children’s mental health and she writes a listserv on picturebooks aimed at helping educators, families, pediatricians, general practitioners, psychotherapists and psychologists speak with children about big feelings including grief, anxiety, and fear as well as issues related to social justice including racism, settler colonialism, sexism and homo- and trans- phobias (www.picturebookstogrow.com). Dr. Allyson Funamoto, CPsych is a licensed psychologist with the College of Psychologists and Behaviour Analysts of Ontario. Dr. Funamoto is skilled at conducting comprehensive, standardized psychometric assessments. Dr. Funamoto also provides mental health treatment for children as well as parenting support.

Originally from Montreal, Dr. Funamoto completed her undergraduate degree (Honours Psychology) at Concordia University, as well as a Master of Education (Psychological Studies in Education) and a PhD (School and Clinical Child Psychology) at the University of Alberta. Dr. Funamoto’s broad research interests are parent-child attachment, parenting behaviours, father involvement, and child development.

Due to her ongoing involvement with the University of Alberta with clinical supervision, guest lecturing, and research, Dr. Funamoto is an Adjunct Academic Colleague with the Department of Educational Psychology. She is also adjunct with the University of Queen’s Department of Psychology in a supervision capacity.

Dr. Funamoto has worked in both school and clinical environments running therapeutic groups, providing individual therapy, and holding psychoeducation groups to children and their caregivers. She was previously a Clinical Lead at CASA Child, Adolescent and Family Mental Health (Edmonton).

Dr. Matheson is the Founder and Clinical Director of Child In Mind. Dr. Matheson’s clinical work is founded in an attachment framework, which leads to an integrated and holistic approach to supporting children within the systems that surround them. Her approach to therapy draws from multidimensional models including play therapy (for all ages) and CBT.

She completed a PhD in Developmental Psychology from Carleton University (2009) and a MEd. in Counselling from the University of Ottawa (2004). Dr. Matheson has been working with young children and their families both in public and private practice settings for the past 12 years. Her area of focus is working with children, teens, parents and families that are struggling with a wide range of challenges including anxiety, aggression, bullying, trauma, separation/divorce, ADHD, self-harm, OCD, sleep, feeding and sensory regulation challenges.

Dr. Matheson also provides support to families that are going through divorce and separation, including forensic assessments for the courts.

Clara brings her experience working with individuals and couples. Her approach to psychotherapy is integrative; she draws from evidence-based therapies, including psychodynamic, trauma-informed and attachment theories, with a culturally sensitive worldview as a core element. 

Clara has received training from the International Centre for Excellence in Emotionally Focused Therapy for Couples, the Institute for Self-In Relationship Psychotherapy (SIRP) for a comprehensive assessment and treatment of relational and self-disorders related to trauma and emotional neglect, the Couples Institute for Couples Therapy, and the Mindsight Institute to transform Anxiety and Stress by Integrating the Embodied Brain.

Karen Hill (she/her) holds a B.A. (hons) Psychology degree from the University of British Columbia, a B.Ed. degree from Queen’s University and an M.Ed.degree in Counseling from the University of Ottawa.

She has been working with children, youth, adults and families in both educational and therapeutic settings for more than 20 years. Karen’s passion is to support individuals to live healthy, happy lives and in providing the tools and skills to do so. She has extensive training in the areas of behaviour management, sensory processing and mental health, and has worked as a Therapist, Trainer and Special Education Teacher in specialized program classes in both public and private education. Karen works from a collaborative, strengths-based perspective; assisting and supporting clients to be the architect of their own lives. Her areas of expertise include anxiety, depression, disruptive behaviors, ADHD, ODD, relationship challenges, self-esteem, and trauma. Karen has extensive training in Collaborative Problem Solving, ABA therapy and is an Advanced Trainer of the Nurtured Heart Approach. She values building a safe, comfortable and collaborative therapeutic relationship, gently guiding her clients to being their best, authentic selves.
