Groups

Child In Mind runs a variety of therapy groups, both in-person and virtually. Our groups are 6 sessions offered on a weekly basis. Paediatric Consult

Paediatric Consultations are available to current clients of Child In Mind and accessible through your assigned therapist. For referral to our Paediatric Consultation, please connect with your clinician directly or email info@childinmind.com.


Educational Consultation

Educational Consultation is a bridging service, designed to support caregivers navigate school programs, accommodations, IEP guidance, and assistive technology training. Educational Consultation is available to new and current clients, and can particularly helpful for children with identified psychological, behavioural, or learning challenges that are impacting their school functioning.

Dr. Colleen Scott, Psy.D. graduated with a doctoral degree in clinical psychology from Pacific University in Oregon, USA , and has been a licensed psychologist for 15 years. Prior to Child in Mind, Dr. Scott worked at a community mental health agency for children and families as well as in private practice.

Dr. Scott has experience providing psychotherapy to children, families, and adults with a wide variety of presenting challenges. Her specialty areas of focus include complex trauma, parent-child attachment, grief/loss, anxiety, depression, ADHD, and developmental concerns. Dr. Scott additionally has specialty training in early childhood mental health (ages 0-5) and working with foster/adopted children.

Dr. Scott’s approach to therapy is from a developmental and attachment perspective that considers the unique characteristics and strengths of every child and family. She works collaboratively with her clients to identify areas of growth and uses interventions aimed to improve relationships, positive behaviours, and emotional wellbeing. She has training in art and play therapy and often uses these creative approaches in her work.

Dr. Scott additionally provides psychological and learning assessments to children ages 3 - 12. Her evaluations focus on identifying learning and/or developmental concerns as well as cognitive functioning strengths and areas of growth. Dr. Scott enjoys helping kids understand how their brains work and using information from assessments to guide interventions across settings (such as school, medical, or developmental services).

Dr. Shoshana Magnet is a mother of two as well as Full Professor of Feminist and Gender Studies at the University of Ottawa. Her research is on feminist approaches to children’s mental health and she writes a listserv on picturebooks aimed at helping educators, families, pediatricians, general practitioners, psychotherapists and psychologists speak with children about big feelings including grief, anxiety, and fear as well as issues related to social justice including racism, settler colonialism, sexism and homo- and trans- phobias (www.picturebookstogrow.com). Dr. Shoshana provides bibliotherapy to children and families on a wide variety of importing topics impacting today’s youth. In her role at Child In Mind, she runs reading circles for young children and their parents.

Dr. Jessica Gammon is a Royal College certified General Pediatrician who is providing consultation services to children receiving services at Child In Mind. Dr. Gammon completed her Medical Degree at the University of Toronto in 2006 and specialty training in Pediatrics at Queen’s University in 2010. She has since worked in multiple different clinical settings, performing developmental assessments and provided complex paediatric care to children and youth. Dr. Gammon has extensive experience and interest in childhood growth and development, school-related concerns, ADHD, and child and adolescent mental health in addition to childhood medical issues. Jovette Carey (she/her) is a Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying) with the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario (CRPO) and a member of the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association (CCPA). She is completing an internship on behalf of the Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology program with Yorkville University under the supervision of Dr. Matheson.

Dr. Matheson is the Founder and Clinical Director of Child In Mind. Dr. Matheson’s clinical work is founded in an attachment framework, which leads to an integrated and holistic approach to supporting children within the systems that surround them. Her approach to therapy draws from multidimensional models including play therapy (for all ages) and CBT.

She completed a PhD in Developmental Psychology from Carleton University (2009) and a MEd. in Counselling from the University of Ottawa (2004). Dr. Matheson has been working with young children and their families both in public and private practice settings for the past 12 years. She has extensive training in the areas of behaviour management, sensory processing and mental health, and has worked as a Therapist, Trainer and Special Education Teacher in specialized program classes in both public and private education. Karen works from a collaborative, strengths-based perspective; assisting and supporting clients to be the architect of their own lives. Her areas of expertise include anxiety, depression, disruptive behaviors, ADHD, ODD, relationship challenges, self-esteem, and trauma. Karen has extensive training in Collaborative Problem Solving, ABA therapy and is an Advanced Trainer of the Nurtured Heart Approach. She values building a safe, comfortable and collaborative therapeutic relationship, gently guiding her clients to being their best, authentic selves.
